1 dead, 2 injured in early morning hit and run; APD investigating
AUSTIN (KXAN) — The Austin Police Department said it’s investigating a fatal hit and run that occurred during the early morning of May 11, according to a Monday afternoon press release.
APD officers arrived to the scene in the 700 block of East Seventh Street at 4:59 a.m. According to the release, a vehicle hit three pedestrians before fleeing northbound on the Interstate 35 Frontage Road.
First responders took the three pedestrians to a nearby hospital.
One of those patients, Erica Garza, 20, died from injuries sustained in the crash on May 16, according to APD. Her death marks the city’s 30th fatal crash of 2025.
The two other pedestrians had minor injuries from the collision.
