3 Texas softball players become 2025 consensus All-Americans

AUSTIN (KXAN) — More All-America honors are rolling in for the Texas Longhorns before they take the field at the Women’s College World Series on Thursday.

The National Fastpitch Coaches Association and D1Softball.com released their All-America teams ahead of the WCWS in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and three Longhorns made the cut on each squad.

Junior catcher Reese Atwood was named a first-team All-American by both organizations and, in addition, won the NFCA’s catcher of the year award. Sophomore pitcher Teagan Kavan and senior third baseman Mia Scott were named to the NFCA second team. It’s the first time since 2013 that Texas has had three NFCA All-Americans and the fourth time in school history.

Atwood is the only player in program history to hit 20 or more home runs in consecutive seasons. With 85 RBIs, she’s five short of the program record of 90 that she set last season. She was a unanimous first-team selection last season, making her the first Longhorns player since Janae Jefferson and the seventh in program history to receive the honor multiple times in her career.

The players were honored with the same distinctions on the D1Softball.com All-America teams, making them consensus All-America selections when including their honors by Softball America on May 20.

Texas, seeded No. 6 overall in the tournament, faces SEC foe and third-seeded Florida in the opening game of the WCWS at 11 a.m. Thursday.
