Live newscast captures couple exchanging vows in Valentine's elopement at Austin's Chapel of Love
AUSTIN (KXAN) — Love is in the air this Valentine’s Day, and some Austin couples celebrated by tying the knot in Vegas-style ceremonies, right here in the heart of Texas.
Chapel of Love ATX is Texas’s “first and only little white wedding chapel,” according to its website. The chapel offers drive-up weddings and elopements, and it held its first-ever Valentine’s Day wedding celebration on Friday.
One couple was even captured on live TV exchanging vows on KXAN News at 11 on Friday.
Mark and Lori Jimerson were one couple who took part in the Valentine’s celebrations, exchanging vows while KXAN was broadcasting live from the chapel.
The chapel said with a growing trend of micro-weddings and elopements, the event was designed for couples seeking a stress-free, memorable way to say “I do.”
The building that is now Chapel of Love ATX was saved from a wrecking crew a few years ago and started offering drive-up weddings during the COVID-19 pandemic. Its website touts “Texas Charm” with “Vegas Simplicity” and makes getting hitched as easy and stress-free as a drive-thru meal, while keeping it romantic.
The chapel had a Valentine’s-themed balloon wall and a vintage airstream photo lounge with refreshments ready for couples on Friday. Anyone could come and get married, as long as they already had a valid marriage license.
Chapel founder and officiant Rev. Lorelei Starbuck has married thousands of couples across the country. She and her husband founded Elope in Austin in 2012, which has joined more than 1,200 couples since then, according to its website.
