Top-ranked Longhorns end 3-city road trip unbeaten at 6-0



AUSTIN (KXAN) — No. 1 Texas softball wrapped up a 6-game road trip across three sites with their fifth and sixth wins Sunday in Huntsville.

The Longhorns beat Tulsa 4-2 and then dispatched Sam Houston 8-3 at the Bearkat Softball Complex to stay unbeaten.

Teagan Kavan went the distance in the circle for the Longhorns against the Bearkats, allowing three runs on two hits with eight strikeouts and a walk. Sam Houston scored its runs on a pair of home runs in the fifth and seventh innings.

Reese Atwood and Victoria Hunter hit home runs as part of the 3-run seventh inning for Texas. Kayden Henry and Leighann Goode had three hits each.

Against Tulsa, freshman Cambria Salmon picked up another win in the circle with five strikeouts in five innings. She allowed one earned run on three hits in 70 pitches. Citlaly Gutierrez earned the save after working the final two innings.

Joley Mitchell blasted a 2-run home run in the seventh to give Texas a 4-1 lead. Katie Stewart and Shylien Brister had two hits each.

Texas (6-0) hosts the Bevo Classic on Feb. 14-16, taking on Maryland, Texas Tech and Massachusetts.
