WATCH: Xavier Worthy makes Texas Longhorns history with TD in Super Bowl
AUSTIN (KXAN) — Not much went right for the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl 59 against the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday, but a Longhorn made some history.
Xavier Worthy caught a 24-yard pass from Patrick Mahomes in the third quarter to become the first Texas player to score a touchdown in a Super Bowl. The score barely made a dent in the Eagles’ huge lead, however, and after the Chiefs failed the 2-point conversion attempt, Philadelphia had a 34-6 lead with 0:34 left in the frame.
Worthy was the No. 28 overall pick of the 2024 NFL draft by the Chiefs, who traded up in the draft to select him. He wowed NFL executives and team personnel after running the fastest 40-yard dash in NFL Combine history, clocking a time of 4.21 seconds.
It didn’t take long for the speedster to make an impact with the Chiefs, scoring the first time he touched the ball in an NFL regular season game.
Worthy caught 59 passes for 638 yards and six touchdowns for the Chiefs during the regular season, helping them to a 15-2 record and the No.1 seed in the AFC. Kansas City is trying to be the first franchise to win three consecutive Super Bowls.
