Lake Travis ISD names lone finalist for new superintendent

AUSTIN (KXAN) — The Lake Travis Independent School District now has a lone finalist for its new superintendent.

During a special-called meeting on Thursday, the LTISD Board of Trustees announced Dr. Curtis Null will succeed the district’s interim superintendent, Steve Flores. Flores has served as the district’s interim superintendent since late February, according to a news release from LTISD.

This comes after the board voted to remove former superintendent Paul Norton in February. He was placed on leave in December after allegations of misconduct, according to the district. At the time, the school board said in a press release that those allegations were “confidential and protected from disclosure.”

“I am honored to be named the lone finalist in Lake Travis ISD. The opportunity to serve in one of the premier school districts in Texas is one to be cherished. I look forward to working with the students, parents, staff, and community to honor the tradition of excellence in Lake Travis while we build an even brighter future together.”

According to the district, it requires “a 21-day waiting period before Dr. Null can officially be hired.”

Null has served as the superintendent for Conroe Independent School District, which is near Houston, since June 2018. The district leads as the state’s seventh-largest school district, which has approximately 73,000 students and more than 10,000 employees, according to LTISD.

In February, the district school board “retained JG Consulting, Inc. to assist with the superintendent search.” A nationwide search was conducted, which drew 38 applicants, and top candidates went through a comprehensive evaluation, according to LTISD.

“Dr. Null is a dynamic leader with a proven track record of success and a deep commitment to building strong relationships,” Erin Archer, Lake Travis ISD Board President, said in the release. “He brings an impressive record of leadership outcomes, successful school programs, and dynamic community involvement. We’re confident he will guide our district through future challenges and help our students and staff thrive. We’re excited to welcome Dr. Null to the Lake Travis family.”
