APD detective dies following off-duty motorcycle crash in San Marcos

AUSTIN (KXAN) — A detective with the Austin Police Department died Saturday morning following an off-duty motorcycle crash in San Marcos, according to an internal APD email.

APD identified the detective as Israel Garcia.

According to the email, APD’s Peer Support and Wellness Team was on standby for officers at the department.

“We will get through this together,” the email from APD Chief Lisa Davis reads.

KXAN had reached out to APD for a statement regarding Garcia’s death.
