AUSTIN (KXAN) — Passenger totals at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport were just below record levels in 2024, and 2025 is set to be another incredibly busy year.
Last year, about 21.7 million passengers flew in and out of AUS, about 333,000 fewer than in 2023, but still about 675,000 more than in 2022.
But how many passengers have been reported in 2025? KXAN is keeping track of all the numbers. Follow along with our interactive charts below.

What’s the busiest year on record?
While 2024 came close, 2023 remains the busiest year on record at AUS, with more than 22 million passengers.
What’s the busiest month on record?
May 2024 stands as the busiest month ever at AUS, with almost 2.07 million passengers. Only seven other months have seen more than 2 million passengers: July 2023, October 2023, July 2024, May 2022, June 2024, June 2023 and October 2022.
So far in 2025, no monthly passenger records have been set.
What’s the busiest day on record?
Oct. 21, 2024, stands as the current busiest day on record, with more than 44,000 passengers screened through TSA. The spike in passenger totals came as travelers left Austin after F1 weekend and the University of Texas home football game against Georgia.
Only two other days in history have broken the 40,000 passenger mark, both being Mondays in October after F1 weekend. Days during SXSW, Spring Break and Austin City Limits music festival also feature in the top 10 busiest days on record.
Which airline carries the most passengers?
Southwest Airlines is the largest airline operating at AUS in terms of passenger traffic. The airline accounts for 41.5% of all passengers so far this year.
American Airlines is next, accounting for 17.6% of passengers. Delta Air Lines has flown 15.7% of passengers, while United Airlines has carried 13.7%. Alaska Airlines is in a distant fifth place, accounting for 3.3% of passengers.
In total, Southwest has flown more than 1.9 million passengers in and out of Austin this year. American has flown more than 810,000 passengers, Delta has flown more than 720,000, and United has flown more than 630,000 passengers.
Which airlines are seeing the most growth?

The chart below shows year-over-year growth in passenger totals. If a month is colored green, passenger totals were higher in 2025 than the same month in 2024. If red, the number of passengers decreased.
The chart below shows how passenger totals in 2025 compared to 2024. If an airline has a green box in a certain month, it means the airline saw an increase in passengers compared to the same month in 2023. If the box is red, the airline saw a drop in passengers that month.
For example, Delta Air Lines saw a 13% increase in passengers in January 2025 compared to January 2024. Meanwhile, the number of passengers flying with JetBlue Airways dropped by 68%.

What new routes are coming in 2025?
Several airlines launched or announced new routes for 2025. We have a running list in the table below.

What routes have been canceled in 2025?
Airlines have canceled three routes from AUS this year. We have a running list in the table below.
If the airline is the only one operating that route, meaning the flight will no longer have direct service from Austin, it will be highlighted yellow in the right-hand column. Others listed in the table are routes that will still be operated by other airlines.

In addition to the routes listed above, Canadian airline WestJet had planned to launch nonstop service between Austin and Vancouver on May 11. The airline canceled the route in late April, citing a “downward shift in demand” for travel from Canada to the U.S.
