Man faces murder charge after 50-year-old shot 12 times in southeast Austin
AUSTIN (KXAN) — Police arrested a man Wednesday related to an October 2023 fatal shooting that occurred in southeast Austin.
According to an arrest warrant affidavit, 21-year-old Jalen Alexander Hemphill was charged with first-degree murder in connection with the death of 50-year-old Feliciano Alvarado-Lajuj, who medical examiners said was shot 12 times.
KXAN has reached out to Hemphill’s attorney. This article will be updated if a statement is received.
According to the affidavit, Austin Police detectives connected Hemphill to the shooting utilizing APD case history, ballistic evidence linked to previous criminal cases and DNA testing.
“Documented APD case history [showed] that Hemphill frequents the area of the murder to conduct his criminal behavior, particularly robberies, and further corroborates his involvement in the murder of the victim,” the affidavit read.
As of Friday, Hemphill remained booked in the Travis County Jail on a bond of $200,000.
