‘Violent and disturbing’: Austin man found with 1.9k+ child sexual abuse videos now facing felony charges
AUSTIN (KXAN) — Police arrested a man May 2 on charges related to possession of child pornography, according to an Austin arrest warrant affidavit.
Travis County court records showed 31-year-old Daniel Nathan Downing faces two felony charges: possession of child pornography with more than 500 visual depictions and possession with intent to promote child pornography.
KXAN has reached out to Downing’s attorney. This article will be updated if a statement is received.
The affidavit stated a phone owned by Downing contained “a total of 2,786 videos … at the time it was seized.”
Of those, more than 1,900 videos were identified as child sexual abuse material.
“The majority of those videos depicted the sexual assault of children, toddlers and infants,” the affidavit said. Investigators also found “exceptionally violent and disturbing videos.”
As of Thursday, Downing remained in custody at the Travis County jail on the two felony charges, with bonds totaling $75,000.
