There's a new mural in Sunset Valley! Have you seen it?
AUSTIN (KXAN)– From the “Hi How Are You?” mural on the Drag, to the “I love you so much” mural on South Congress, murals in Austin are a popular spot to snap a photo or just admire the work.
Over in Sunset Valley, muralist Efren Rebugio is adding another mural to the many pieces that have popped around Austin over the years.
“In creating concepts for murals it is a mix between my own freestyling and my own perspective, but also I think it is important to work with the community and to work with stakeholders,” said Rebugio.
It’s clear how passionate Rebugio is about his work, showing off many of his past pieces on his Instagram page.

“In Austin there is a lot of opportunity to use our gifts and talents and perspective for businesses and things like that, but the meaningful projects are when you can work with a community to uplift a communal storylines, certain people who contribute to the community or beautify a space that would normally just be a blank shipping container,” Rebugio said.
His newest piece is located on the side of a shipping container near Highway 290 at the back of Burger Stadium, you can put in 3200 Jones Rd, Austin, TX 78745 to find the spot.
The inspiration comes from local plants and flowers. Rebugio said he worked with the Sunset Valley Farmer’s Market to come up with the piece.
Rebugio said he has worked on local murals and projects at Austin bars, office buildings and he has one piece in Moody Center.
“Within the street art world there is this sector where a lot of the work is temporary which is kind of cool, where walls rotate, so I have painted a lot, but they have also been painted over, which gives us opportunity to grow, but also gives other opportunities to other artists,” Rebugio said.
Rebugio said he hopes more people will hire local artists to complete art around the city.
