New parking shuttle to provide transport for Zilker Park, Barton Springs visitors

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Austinites will soon have an easier way to access a congested part of Zilker Park and Barton Springs every weekend just in time for summer.

Austin Parks and Recreation is launching the Zilker Loop May 24, a free service to transport visitors from a “less congested Stratford Parking Lot to popular areas in the park including Zilker Playground, Barton Creek and Barton Springs Pool.”

Zilker Loop will run every Saturday and Sunday from noon to 6 p.m. and will continue through Sept. 1, according to a release from the city.

Additionally, the Zilker Loop will run on the following holidays, as provided by the city:

  • Memorial Day, May 26
  • Juneteenth, June 19
  • Independence Day, July 4
  • Labor Day, Sept. 1

The route has a total of four stops: the Stratford Lot, Zilker Playground, Barton Springs Pool and Polo Fields Parking Area, according to the city. It will pick up passengers and drop them off at “designated stops about every 15 to 20 minutes.” Additionally, the city said no pets or coolers are allowed on the vehicle.

According to the city, parking fees for the first two hours in Stratford Lot can be waived via the Park ATX app. The city said weekend and holiday parking at Zilker Park costs $3 per hour. Austinites can pay and renew parking charges via the parking app.
