Michael B. Jordan To Receive 2025 American Cinematheque Award
Michael B. Jordan, the Fruitvale Station, Creed, Black Panther and Sinners star who has become one of Hollywood’s most influential multihyphenates, will receive the 39th American Cinematheque Award. The honor will be bestowed in a ceremony November 20 at the Beverly Hilton.
The news comes as amid the success of Sinners, the Warner Bros vampire horror film that represents Jordan’s fifth collaboration with Ryan Coogler, after both arrived on the scene with 2013’s Sundance Film Festival hit Fruitvale Station.
Sinners has made $319 million at the global box office, making it a major pre-summer success story, as he turns next to The Thomas Crown Affair, in which he is directing, starring and producing via his Outlier Society banner for Amazon MGM Studios. It follows his directing debut on Creed III in 2023 which set multiple box office records including becoming the biggest domestic opening ever for a sports film.
On the philanthropy front, Jordan, whose TV credits include his breakout role in Friday Night Lights and the Emmy-nominated movie Fahrenheit 451, launched the Outlier Society Fellowship and founded the HBCU Legacy Classic. He is also an investor in multiple sports ventures.

Jordan has been an unparalleled showcase for the combination of superb talent and purposeful vision that has made him a major power in today’s movie business,” American Cinematheque board chair Rick Nicita said Wednesday. “He entered the ranks of movie stars with Fruitvale Station and rapidly followed it up with iconic roles in Black Panther and three Creed movies, including his directorial debut in Creed III, with more directorial efforts to come.
“He has become a prolific producer with multiple projects across our business and his philanthropic activities are many and wide-ranging. Most recently, his outstanding performances (yes, two performances) in the worldwide smash Sinners have cemented his place in the upper tier of movie stars, now and in the future. The American Cinematheque is proud to present the 39th American Cinematheque Award to Michael B. Jordan.”
The event, an annual fundraiser for the nonprofit American Cinematheque, honored Jessica Chastain in 2024 at a ceremony that typically draws one of the splashiest Hollywood crowds of the season. Other recent past recipients of the honor bestowed since 1986 include Denzel Washington, Nicole Kidman, Steve Martin, Al Pacino, George Clooney, Julia Roberts, Samuel L. Jackson, Charlize Theron, Robert Downey Jr., Ryan Reynolds and Helen Mirren among many more.
