Victim in ‘No Kings’ Day shooting in Utah dies: What we know

Arthur Folasa Ah Loo, 39, has died following a shooting that occurred during the “No Kings” protest in downtown Salt Lake City on Saturday evening, according to Salt Lake City Police Chief Brian Redd.

Police have identified the suspect as Arturo Gamboa, 24, who was found with both a rifle and a gas mask in his backpack. The victim was struck during crossfire when security personnel confronted the armed suspect.

The shooting occurred around 7:56 p.m. near 151 S. State Street as approximately 10,000 people were participating in the permitted protest march from Pioneer Park to the Wallace F. Bennett Federal Building. Two additional individuals were detained following the incident.

According to witness statements, security personnel noticed Gamboa separate from the crowd, go behind a wall and prepare his rifle. Two people wearing high visibility vests who were reportedly part of the march’s peacekeeping team were also detained. The victim appears to have been caught in crossfire when these security personnel engaged with Gamboa.

Witnesses described scenes of chaos as protesters scattered when gunshots rang out.
