Steve Coogan & Rob Brydon Comedy Series ‘The Trip’ Renewed For Fifth Season At Sky

Steve Coogan and Rob Brydon are heading on the road once again.

Sky announced this morning that it has renewed the Coogan and Brydon comedy series The Trip for a fifth season.

Titled The Trip to the Northern Lights, the series will be directed by Michael Winterbottom (This England). Sky said the six-part series will see the pair travel through Scandinavia in search of fine food, wry conversation, and a glimpse of the elusive Northern Lights.

The six-part series will start shooting later this year on location in Scandinavia. It will be produced by Revolution Films, Baby Cow Productions, and Small Man in association with Sky Studios. Executive producers are Michael Winterbottom, Melissa Parmenter, Steve Coogan, and Rob Brydon. The series producer is Josh Hyams.

“I’m delighted that Michael Winterbottom has managed to persuade me at the age of 59 to join Rob, aged 60, to squeeze the last few drops of comedy from a bottle that we both thought was pretty much empty,” Coogan said in a statement.

Coogan recently made headlines after it was reported that he wrote to a British court to argue against a driving ban he was handed because it would jeopardize The Trip’s plans to shoot this year and put crew members out of work.

Coogan had been caught driving at 97mph on a UK freeway on July 29 last year.

The actor’s letter was obtained by The Standard newspaper. The Standard said Birmingham magistrates court listened to Coogan’s plea and handed him five penalty points, leaving him one short of a ban. He was ordered to pay a £3,590 fine and other costs.
