Mets will have a role in MLB trade deadline’s arms race

The Mets still lead MLB in starter ERA (2.95) but expect to be looking at starters at the deadline.

Best-case scenario: Kodai Senga and Tylor Megill are back in a month.

The Pirates and Braves say Paul Skenes and Chris Sale ($8 million team option) are going nowhere. So — beyond Sandy Alcantara, who has a 6.88 ERA — will any aces be available?

It might be only wishful thinking, but some rival execs see some chance the small-market Brewers might consider trading ace Freddy Peralta in a patented buy-sell Brewers move. But with another year to go at a reasonable $8M, it still looks like a long shot.
