City of Round Rock seeking public feedback on water drainage
AUSTIN (KXAN) — The City of Round Rock is seeking public feedback on water drainage issues in the city.
The goal of the feedback is to enhance models that engineers and city officials can use to better represent stormwater flows in various areas. Michael Thane, the Executive Director of Round Rock’s Public Works, said the public feedback would help his team forecast such models.
“When you have a storm event and you have a problem, usually the runoff happens, and within a short amount of time, we get out there and it’s too late, and we don’t really see the impact of the flooding,” Thane said. “We need public input from the citizens that see when things are happening that are that are potentially flooding issues. And that input to us is helpful.”
Thane also emphasized that in designing infrastructure that would prevent flooding from occurring it would prevent damage caused by flooding such as erosion from occuring.
“If you don’t have the proper infrastructure in place to capture the stormwater, one, you could damage property downstream, health and safety, that’s a big deal,” Thane said.
