Andrew Lloyd Webber’s ‘Phantom Of The Opera’ Spin-Off ‘Masquerade’ Plans Six-Week NYC Run
Tickets for a six-week New York summer run of Masquerade, the immersive Phantom of the Opera spin-off production from Andrew Lloyd Webber, will go on sale June 30 with access granted to anyone who has signed up on the production website by then.
Dates for the six-week run have not yet been announced, but an opening this summer is expected and will be made public on or before the June 30 ticket sales start.
In the latest cryptic message, or press release, sent out under the guise of a missive from the Phantom himself, instructions for getting tickets – as well as requirements for attending the show – are outlined.
“You are strongly advised to sign my ledger by the 30th of June,” the note says. “This will ensure you will be granted access to my production during the six weeks I have elected to present it to a very fortunate few.”
The following requirements for attendance, the message states, “must be strictly adhered to”:
- “You must dress in black, white or silver or a combination of these colours;”
- “You must at all times conceal your face. A masquerade mask in black, white, or silver is required. Bring your own or purchase one at the door;”
- “Finally, a word of advice. Do not wear high heels. Whilst in certain circumstances these can be appropriate, they could be treacherous as you tread the secret catacombs and dark crannies that I have prepared for you.”
The immersive experience will be staged at a building at 220 West 57th St. that formerly housed the multi-floored Lee’s Art Shop. The building has undergone extensive renovations for the production.
The Phantom of the Opera musical, composed by Lloyd Webber, ended its 35-year Broadway run in 2023, much to Lloyd Webber’s rumored dissatisfaction. The “Phantom” missives posted to social media in recent months typically refer to an “untimely and unwise eviction from The Majestic Theater.”
Earlier this month, a man dressed in the famous half-mask and formal opera-wear disembarked from an old-timey carriage at Sunday’s Tony Awards at Radio City Music Hall, another in the series of clues that Masquerade was imminent.
