Booker, Lee represent Texas on Team USA in FIBA tournaments this summer
AUSTIN (KXAN) — Hoopers always want to hoop, and two from the Texas Longhorns women’s squad are going to hit the hardwood internationally this summer.
Madison Booker and Jordan Lee will compete for two versions of Team USA, and Booker is vying for her fourth gold medal with the Stars and Stripes. She’ll play in the FIBA Women’s AmeriCup tournament from June 28-July 6 in Santiago, Chile. The AmeriCup is contested every two years and features national teams from North, South and Central America. It’s also a qualifying tournament for the FIBA Women’s World Cup and the Olympics.
Duke’s Kara Lawson and USA Basketball have assembled an all-star roster from the college ranks to compete in the tournament, including Notre Dame’s Hannah Hidalgo, Iowa State’s Audi Crooks, TCU’s Olivia Miles, Louisiana State’s Flau’jae Johnson and others. Brazil is the defending champion, topping Team USA 69-58 in 2023. Team USA has been in the last three gold-medal games, winning in 2019 and 2021.
Booker has three gold medals in international competition, all coming before she became a Longhorn. She was part of championship teams at the 2023 FIBA U19 Women’s World Cup, 2022 FIBA U17 Women’s World Cup and the 2021 FIBA Women’s U16 Americas Championship.
