Crews battle fire at tire facility as black smoke billows over Highway 29 in Burnet County

AUSTIN (KXAN) — First responders are on scene of a large fire at a tire recycling facility near Highway 29, just east of Burnet, on Monday evening, according to a social media post from the Burnet County Sheriff’s Office.

The facility is located in the 3300 block of East State Highway 29, the post said. Highway 29 is shut down in both directions, east and westbound, BCSO said.

Heavy black smoke was seen billowing across the highway, and BCSO said it was “intermittently covering the highway.”

At this time, there have been limited evacuations in the area, and fire crews are working to contain the fire, according to the post.

The post encouraged residents to avoid the area if possible. Travel delays and road closures are likely, BCSO said.
