MAP: Where have flash flooding deaths been confirmed in Texas?
AUSTIN (KXAN) — At least 135 people have been killed in catastrophic flash flooding across Texas, while at least eight others remain missing.
Deaths have been confirmed in six counties, with the majority in Kerr County.
Kerr County: 107 dead, 3 missing
At least 107 people, including 37 children, were killed in Kerr County, officials said in a July 19 update. Three people remain missing at this time, down from 97 earlier in the week.
In a press release, the Kerr County Flood Disaster Joint Information Center said many people who were initially reported as missing had been verified as safe “through extensive follow-up work among state and local agencies.”
Travis County: 10 dead, 4 missing
Ten deaths have been confirmed in Travis County after what County Judge Andy Brown called “an extremely deadly and destructive flood event.” The Sandy Creek area has been hardest hit.
Four people remain missing as of July 16, county officials said.
Kendall County: 9 dead
Nine people are confirmed dead in Kendall County as of July 15, according to the county’s Office of Emergency Management. Further details were not immediately available.
Burnet County: 5 dead, 1 missing
Five people were killed in flooding in Burnet County. Michael Phillips, chief of Marble Falls Area Volunteer Fire Department, remains missing.
Williamson County: 3 dead
Three people have been confirmed killed in Williamson County, officials said. Sheriff Matt Lindemann said one of the victims was found trapped under a partially-submerged vehicle near County Road 284.
Tom Green County: 1 dead
Officials in Tom Green County confirmed a 62-year-old woman was killed in the flooding. She was found in her vehicle after previously being reported missing, according to the City of San Angelo.
