“We have this really cool bond we’ve been able to build,” he revealed. “He’s a great dude, but also it’s nice to have a running buddy. He’s new, so I’m kind of holding, not literally holding his hand, but giving him some words of encouragement.”

As for his new partnership with Samsung Health and Galaxy Wearables, Carl swears by the brand’s Watch8 to help him train for his upcoming marathon and improve his running time.

“It’s really about my mental health,” Carl shared. “I found a lot of amazing folks that go to run clubs or different workout events, and that, for me, as a sober person, has been a nice way to feel part of the city. If you would have told me 10 years ago Carl would be running a New York City marathon I would have said, ‘You’re f–king nuts.’ But it’s been a good journey so far.”
