Doja Cat Just Ate Her Red Lipstick on the 2025 VMAs Red Carpet
Doja Cat’s VMAs 2025 glam has everyone talking, for good reason: Ahead of tonight’s ceremony, she stepped onto the red carpet and took a bite out of her bold red lipstick.
The 29-year-old was one of the first to arrive to this year’s MTV Video Music Awards, and her pre-show appearance locked her look in as one of the most memorable of the night.
For the occasion, the rapper wore a diamond-printed pale yellow and lilac Balmain mini dress with a bejeweled pink embellishment down the middle, yellow platforms, and a Dolly Parton-esque warm blonde blowout. Between the high-volume hair and wispy bangs, long, cherry red nails, colorful pattern play, and statement lip, Doja Cat was a walking testament to over-the-top 80’s glam.
The piece-de-resistance of the “Paint the Town Red” rapper’s look, was, appropriately, red lipstick. While pausing to vamp for the cameras, Doja Cat called attention to her crystal-encrusted, lipstick-shaped clutch–a homage of the iconic MAC tube she pulled out to apply (so we thought). Instead of touching up her pout in her signature Lady Danger shade, she twisted up the lipstick, and bit off the end.

While this impromptu snack feels very on brand with the singer’s past red carpets surprises, there is a reason behind the stunt: Doja Cat is the new face of MAC, as InStyle confirmed. “I’ve been a MAC girl forever, and now I get to take that love to the global stage,” she said. “Makeup is my paint, my armor, my way of creating characters–and MAC has always stood for that kind of artistry and freedom.”
While we’re confident that the product she ate wasn’t MAC’s typical formula (Doja flashed a still-pearly-white smile while chewing on the “lipstick”), major creativity props are in order in this celebrity beauty partnership. After a memorable announcement, we can’t wait to see what else is in store (edible shade line, anyone?) for this collaboration.
