Alan Ritchson Untitled Mike Thornton Navy SEAL Pic Adds Hoa Xuande
EXCLUSIVE: Amazon MGM Studios and Hidden Pictures’ untitled Mike Thornton Navy SEAL movie has added Hoa Xuande to the project starring Alan Ritchson from director Patrick Hughes.
Joe Cole, as we first told you recently, also stars.
Ritchson plays Thornton as he leads a desperate last stand after five men are trapped behind enemy lines in North Vietnam during the war’s final days. Outnumbered by an army of 150 soldiers, they fight through relentless enemy fire before making a harrowing retreat into the South China Sea. With both a gravely wounded lieutenant and fellow soldier tied to him, Thornton swims for hours through hostile waters to reach safety, an act of valor that earned him the Congressional Medal of Honor.
Producers on the movie include 3x Oscar nominee Sylvester Stallone and D. Matt Geller for Balboa Productions, Hidden Pictures’ Todd Lieberman and Alex Young, Alan Ritchson’s AllyCat Entertainment, and Alan Rautbort. Screenplay was penned by Mark Semos, Alan Ritchson, and Jason Hall (American Sniper; Thank You For Your Service).
Xuande starred in the A24 and HBO series The Sympathizer from award-winning director Park Chan-wook, based on Viet Thanh Nguyen’s Pulitzer Prize-winning novel of the same name. For his performance, Xuande received nominations from The Independent Spirit Awards and The Gotham Awards. Up next, Xuande will be seen in the independent feature, Here For The Weekend, produced by Will Ferrell’s Gloria Sanchez Productions; Dacre Montgomery’s upcoming directorial debut, The Engagement Party; and Season Two of Avatar The Last Airbender for Netflix. Xuande’s previous work includes the Cineflix series Last King of the Cross; Netflix’s Cowboy Bebop; A Stitch in Time; Top of the Lake; Fighting Season; and the Australian series Ronny Chieng: International Student. Hoa Xuande is represented by UTA, Industry Entertainment and Morrissey Management.
