Jill Basinger Joins Stris & Maher LLP As Partner To Lead Its Media, Entertainment & Sports Practice
EXCLUSIVE: Prominent media and entertainment litigator Jill Basinger has joined Stris & Maher LLP to lead its Media, Entertainment and Sports Litigation practice from the Los Angeles office. She will work to leverage the firm’s nationwide platform to serve clients wherever needed.
Basinger spent more than a decade as a partner at Glaser Weil LLP, where she represented actors, showrunners, broadcasters, journalists, writers, producers, financiers, agents, and agencies.
Working closely with trial lawyer Patty Glaser, Basinger represented such entertainment and business leaders as Snoop Dogg, Keith Olbermann, ICM and PIMCO’s Bill Gross. Her practice has spanned defamation, contracts, commission and profit-participation disputes, publicity and privacy rights, intellectual property, employee mobility and sensitive internal investigations — often in matters with significant public exposure.
“Today’s media, entertainment and sports disputes don’t lend themselves to a process-heavy law-firm model,” Basinger said. “They often present reputational and commercial risk at the highest levels, requiring proven litigation judgment, deep industry fluency and a strategic understanding of how to move the right levers in order to win. Stris & Maher is built for exactly that kind of work.”
Following her time at Glaser Weil, Basinger served as the first Chief Legal Officer of Discovery Land Company, the leading global developer and operator of luxury private residential communities and resorts. There she led enterprise-wide legal strategy and advised the company on complex litigation, corporate governance, major transactions and regulatory matters.
“Jill has spent her career handling some of America’s best-known disputes—and delivering results,” Stris & Maher Managing Partner Elizabeth Brannen said. “From the courtroom to the boardroom, Jill’s approach aligns perfectly with how Stris & Maher serves its clients — our senior lawyers stay hands-on at every stage, we litigate with a strategy-first mindset, and we remain relentlessly focused on achieving the best possible outcome.”
