‘Price Is Right’ contestant wins $240,000 in record-smashing episode: See how she did it

A contestant on The Price is Right just made history by winning almost a quarter million dollars in a single pricing game.

Vanesa from Vermont took home $240,150 and a “mother-daughter trip” to Morocco, marking the largest prize won in a single pricing game in the game show’s 54-year history, according to the network. This beats the previous record of $210,000 which was scored in a single pricing game of Cliffhangers set in 2016.

The historic win was made during a game of “The Lion’s Share,” a new game that debuted this season that challenges contestants to guess the prices of grocery items to earn up to five balls. Vanesa made the bold choice of risking it all to continue through the game.

“As a retired vet, this is huge for me,” Vanesa told host Drew Carey on the show.

With her daughter watching from the audience, Vanesa’s winnings inched higher and higher as she selected five different balls. When she reached $27,500 in winnings, Vanesa dramatically dropped to the floor as her daughter cheered her on from the audience.

With encouragement from the crowd, Vanesa opted to keep going, earning $100,000 in cash and bringing her earnings to $127,500.

“The last two numbers are my daughter’s birthday — I have to go,” she told Carey before pointing at her daughter in the crowd and adding, “For you, baby.” The next pick earned her another $100,000.

As she grew emotional, Vanesa chose to keep going with the game. “I have to believe,” she said as she chose the last ball. Carey wished her well, telling the contestant, “God bless you. Good luck.” Her luck didn’t stop there: She won a mother-daughter trip to Morroco valued at $12,650, bringing her winnings up to $240,150.

“Almost a quarter mil!” Carey exclaimed as Vanesa celebrated. “Nice job! Wow, what a haul.”

“Happy retirement,” he quipped as the show went to commercial. Vanesa could be seen celebrating

Carey told Vanesa about the major milestone she reached after the commercial break. “Just so you know, Vanesa, she won $240,150 in cash and prizes, which makes her the biggest pricing game winner in Price is Right daytime history,” he said. “Congratulations.”

The Price is Right airs weekdays on CBS at 11 a.m. ET and streams on Paramount+.
