AJJ Medtech to develop ‘world’s first’ multifunctional humanoid elderly care robot
It will work with China’s Huaxi Intelligent Technology Co to produce humanoid robots that will replicate human presence, offering both practical assistance and emotional engagement
[SINGAPORE] AJJ Medtech has entered into a legally binding memorandum of understanding for the joint development and operation of what it noted is the world’s first multifunctional humanoid elderly care robot.
With China’s Huaxi Intelligent Technology Co, the Catalist-listed AJJ Medtech will develop humanoid robots that it said will replicate human presence, offering both practical assistance and emotional engagement – unlike robots that focus only on task-based functions.
They will conduct clinical trials and pilot applications across Singapore’s nursing homes and medical institutions, said AJJ Medtech in a regulatory filing on Sunday (Oct 12).
Singapore will serve as the test bed and showcase market, with eventual rollout to key international markets.
With Singapore’s population ageing rapidly, seniors aged 65 and above are projected to reach 1.5 million by 2030, noted AJJ Medtech. While the government plans to provide 33,000 nursing home beds, the company believes demand far exceeds supply.
According to AJJ Medtech, the first-generation HT-XI humanoid robot developed by Huaxi has already secured more than 1,000 pre-orders.
Shares of AJJ Medtech were unchanged at S$0.007 at market close on Friday.
