Her husband may have gone home empty-handed (losing best actor in a play to Cole Escola in Oh, Mary!), but Amal Clooney still tops our list for best dressed at the 2025 Tony Awards, looking absolutely stunning in an ivory Tamara Ralph spring-summer 2025 couture beaded off-the-shoulder gown and carrying a matching pearl clutch.
If there’s one word to describe this look, it’s mermaid. Complimentary. Pearls, as we know, are created by oysters, so their use as a design element always has a been of an “Under the Sea” vibe, and there are layers of them here, along with beads, draped from the middle, creating, perhaps…kind of a tail? Dare we say…reef princess?

It reminds one of Marion Cotillard’s Jean Paul Gaultier gown at the 2005 Academy Awards, which wasn’t pearled or beaded but was similarly fishy in a totally couture and upscale way, and has remained lodged in this writer’s memory for 20 effing years at this point.
