Amazon MGM Studios Developing Dark Comedy Series ‘God’s Country’ From John Owen Lowe & Samir Mehta; Chris Pratt Exec Producing
EXCLUSIVE: Amazon MGM Studios is developing God’s Country, a dark comedy series from creator John Owen Lowe (Unstable), who will write and co-showrun alongside Samir Mehta (Under the Bridge).
Described as a darkly satirical tale of family and greed, with Shakespearean roots, the show follows a ruthless real estate tycoon bent on gentrifying the heart of America, whose quest begins to threaten his empire and embroil his family in the violent past of a lakeside town.
Adam Londy of Tornante will exec produce alongside Chris Pratt (The Terminal List).
Lowe is best known for co-creating, exec producing and starring opposite father Rob Lowe in Netflix’s comedy Unstable, which ran for two seasons. Prior to that writing on Fox’s 9-1-1: Lone Star, he is repped by UTA, Untitled Entertainment, and Latham & Watkins.
Mehta garnered a Gotham TV Award nomination for his work as writer, exec producer and showrunner of Hulu’s acclaimed crime drama Under the Bridge, starring Lily Gladstone and Riley Keough. Additional credits as a writer-producer include Tell Me Lies, Joe Pickett, and Fear the Walking Dead. Also previously writing on shows like The Sinner, Unsolved: The Murders of Tupac and the Notorious B.I.G. and Narcos, he is repped by manager Ellie Klein and Jackoway Austen Tyerman.
Repped by Hirsch Wallerstein Hayum, Londy’s credits include exec producing the series How I Met Your Father and Love, Victor, as well as Amazon’s rom-com I Want You Back.
Most recently, Pratt has exec produced and starred in the Amazon series The Terminal List, an action thriller based on the novel by Jack Carr, also producing and starring in the forthcoming Apple/Skydance film Way of the Warrior Kid. He is repped by UTA, Rise Management, and Sloane, Offer, Weber & Dern.
