APD: Man arrested, connected to double homicide stemming from 'child custody dispute'
AUSTIN (KXAN) — A 26-year-old man was arrested earlier this week in connection with a double homicide stemming from a “child custody dispute” that happened last month in east Austin, according to the Austin Police Department.
That man was identified as Darius Sebastian Hatcher, according to police. He was arrested on a charge of capital murder of multiple persons.
Attorney information was not available for Hatcher, as of Friday. We will update this when that changes.
Officers responded to the parking garage around 9:30 p.m. on April 20, located at 2604 Aldrich Street, after multiple calls of a shooting were reported in the area, according to police.
The incident started as an altercation between two groups, which consisted of a man and a woman and the two victims — 32-year-old Kendrick Parker and 24-year-old Shamar Roach, according to police.
Police said the altercation turned physical before the man who was with the woman shot Parker and Roach. That man was later identified as Hatcher.
APD detectives were able to identify a suspect vehicle and issued a BOLO — a be-on-the-lookout, the release said. Then, later that night, the Manor Police Department spotted the vehicle and initiated a stop. Hatcher was then transported to APD Headquarters and was interviewed by police.
Detectives continued to gather further evidence after Hatcher provided a statement and eventually issued a warrant for his arrest on May 12, according to police. He was located by the Texas Lone Star Fugitive Task Force and was arrested two days later.
“At this time, there are no outstanding suspects related this case,” APD said.
No other details were available Friday.
