'As of this moment' no delays expected to Austin regional after storm rips down CF wall at UFCU Disch-Falk Field

AUSTIN (KXAN) — A strong thunderstorm packing heavy rain and high winds Wednesday brought down part of the outfield fence at UFCU Disch-Falk Field, two days before the Texas baseball team is set to host a regional in the NCAA tournament.

Winds estimated at up to 70 mph blew over the batter’s eye portion of the center field wall as the storm tore through Austin around 6:30 p.m.

School officials said they don’t expect delays to the Austin regional of the NCAA baseball tournament on Friday.

“We are aware of the situation and are working toward a solution,” the athletic department said in a statement to KXAN. “As of this moment, the Austin Regional is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. on Friday.”

The Longhorns (42-12) are set to play Houston Christian in the opening game of the 4-team tournament at 1 p.m. Friday. UTSA and Kansas State will play the second game of the day at 6:30 p.m.
