AUS to unveil new International Arrivals area

AUSTIN (KXAN) — As the massive multi-billion-dollar expansion continues at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport, a major milestone is expected to happen Wednesday.

A $241 million project for International Arrivals will be unveiled at a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 8:30 a.m.

The area has an additional 20,000 sq ft of space for lines, new offices for Customs and Border Protection, and more booths to help process incoming international passengers, according to the airport.

The airport said it will also allow more international arrivals to be processed at once.

New baggage carousels are also set to debut to make it easier for travelers who might make a connecting flight to a domestic destination.

The project is one of a handful currently underway at the airport. Concourse B is currently in the design phase. It will add at least 20 new gates and a new tunnel that will connect to the existing Barbara Jordan terminal.

Concourse B could be ready as early as 2030. That also means the current South Terminal, where Frontier and Allegiant fly out of, will eventually close. However, the airport has not yet announced when that could happen.

A new Arrivals and Departures hall is also in the design phase. That nearly $900 million project is estimated to open around the same time as the new concourse.

New parking rates to help pay for projects

The Yellow Parking Garage is also under construction. It will eventually replace the Red Garage, which will be torn down to make room for the new hall.

The airport recently raised parking rates at all of its garages. It said part of that increase will help give a boost to these projects, like the new Yellow garage under construction. Travelers will be able to use some of those new parking spots as early as 2026.
