Austin brain chip company Paradromics completes first human implant
AUSTIN (ABJ) — An Austin-based startup developing brain-computer interfaces is moving on to its next phase of testing after completing its first human procedure.
Paradromics Inc. announced June 2 that it completed its first successful surgical placement of its Connexus interface device in a patient undergoing brain surgery for epilepsy. The chip was briefly used and tested during the surgery and was then removed.
The demonstration is a major milestone for Paradromics, one of several companies developing BCIs for human use. Others include Neuralink, Synchron and Precision Neuroscience. The companies all have slightly different approaches to reach the same goal of reading and translating signals from neurons in human brains.
