AUSTIN (KXAN)– Austin is known for its smorgasbord of food scenery, but one that tops all is its legendary barbecue joints- and Yelp confirms it. Recently, Yelp rolled out its rankings for the best barbeque in the U.S., presenting Austin as No. 1 in the Top 10 list.

Yelp reviewers “praised” the smoked brisket and other delicious items found at restaurants throughout the city. High demanded spots, such as Franklin Barbeque and Michelin-rated La Barbeque, earn its reputation as top barbeque destinations.

There were other notable mentions such as iconic brick-and-mortar joint Terry Black’s Barbecue and food trucks including Micklethwait Craft Meat in East Austin.

Austin’s barbeque was also commended for its simple yet flavorful seasonings and unique ribs, according to Yelp. Trays full of brisket, juicy ribs and pulled pork sandwiches are among the most photographed dishes. Foodies further highlighted the perfectly tender texture of the meat spots like Interstellar BBQ and Salt Lick BBQ.

According to Yelp, Austin isn’t the only Texas city named on the list. San Antonio- which is approximately an 86 mile drive from Austin- was ranked second on this year’s Yelp list.

Popular spots like Curry Boys BBQ, Smoke Shack and Garcia Barbeque were among the names topped on the list.

Yelp noted San Antonio boasts about its thriving food truck and casual barbeque scene with spots like Nelson’s BBQ. According to Yelp, Nelson’s BBQ was previously ranked in Yelp’s Top 100 Places to Eat in Texas list back in 2022.
