Buc-ee's falls on list ranking convenience store consumer satisfaction

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Buc-ee’s may be the king of convenience stores to Texans, but when it comes to nationwide customer satisfaction, the travel center chain has fallen a couple of rankings.

The 2025 Convenience Store Study by the American Consumer Satisfaction Index (ACSI) placed Buc-ee’s at No. 5 on the list of top-rated convenience store chains in terms of customer satisfaction.

Buc-ee’s got an ACSI score of 79 out of a possible 100. Last year, it got an 80, placing it at No. 3 on the 2024 list. KwikTrip, Sheetz, Wawa, and QuikTrip took the No. 1-4 spots on this year’s list.

According to ACSI’s study, the convenience store industry’s customer satisfaction has “remained stable” with an ACSI score of 76 this year.

“Pillars of the American interstate like QuikTrip (80), Buc-ee’s (79), and Love’s (79) have succeeded in consistently satisfying customers with modern convenience store features of hot food offerings, merchandise selection, and mobile apps while maintaining the fundamentals of cleanliness and convenience,” the study said.

Though Buc-ee’s technically fell in the rankings this year, the study still recognized it as one of the top convenience store chains and pointed out the branding success of Buc-ee’s.

“Buc-ee’s, in particular, has had success in making the convenience store stop a true visitor experience, far more than a simple stop for a bathroom break and snacks,” the study said.

Some key takeaways from the study’s findings included:

  • Stores have leaned into their mobile app platforms as industry ratings for app reliability, app quality, and mobile order pickup all improve in 2025.
  • The industry’s ongoing focus on an array of made-to-order food items has proven effective as hot food quality and freshness remains one of the highest-rated aspects of the convenience store experience.
  • Rewards program membership continues to play a strong role in customer satisfaction as stores seek to leverage their unique qualities to attract and maintain a loyal customer base.

While Buc-ee’s has plenty of hot and fresh food options, it does not have a mobile app or rewards program.
