'Cat Tree' hotel project proposed in San Marcos
AUSTIN (Austin Business Journal) — A Houston-based developer may build a $40 million hotel in San Marcos on the campus of Texas State University.
The project is expected to help bring more tourism to the downtown of the fast-growing college town between Austin and San Antonio.
Midway Development Group LLC on July 1 will be considered by the San Marcos City Council for $9.1 million in incentives for what’s being called “Project Cat Tree,” an apparent reference to Texas State’s bobcat mascot. The minimum 130-key, full-service hotel would have an event lawn and amphitheater, restaurant, bar and meeting and event space, according to planning documents.
