CSU maintains aggressive hurricane season outlook

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Researchers at Colorado State University (CSU) maintain an above-average forecast for the 2025 Atlantic hurricane season.

CSU forecasts 17 named storms, 9 hurricanes, and 4 major hurricanes (Category 3+).

The reasoning behind an aggressive forecast is based on warmer sea surface temperature anomalies in the eastern and central Atlantic and neutral ENSO conditions, which provide a more conductive environment for tropical development.

The research team will release another update on July 9 and August 6. Hurricane season in the Atlantic Basin began on June 1.

The First Warning Weather Team will continue to provide the latest updates in the tropics.
