Dakota Johnson ‘Loves to Drink a Martini’ While Trimming Her Own Bangs
Who is Dakota Johnson without her bangs? She doesn’t know either.
“I’ve had bangs since I was a child. I cut them myself when I was about four years old and I just loved it,” the 36-year-old actor shared in her cover interview for Vogue Germany. “I’ve had them my whole life, apart from between about [ages] 10 and 14. I just feel like myself with bangs,” she said.
Dakota Johnson’s full, blunt bangs are as much a part of her brand as Taylor Swift’s. And while she also shared that she wouldn’t mind giving up the constant maintenance, she’s found ways to romanticize it. “I also always travel with scissors and love to drink a martini while trimming my own bangs,” Johnson told Vogue Germany. Painfully chic? Yes. Would we recommend? Probably not. Johnson admitted that the method has worked against her bangs’ best interest on more than one occasion, but it hasn’t stopped her yet.
In addition to her fringe, Johnson’s long brunette hair is a critical piece of her effortlessly cool vibe. “It’s rich and dimensional, with just the right amount of warmth to catch the light,” her longtime colorist Tracey Cunningham previously told Glamour, referencing the “glossed chestnut” tone she created for Johnson. “It feels luxurious, modern, and low-commitment. It’s the kind of color that turns heads without trying too hard.”
In her Vogue Germany interview, Johnson shared that simplicity is key in her everyday hair routine: “I don’t use any styling products and let my hair air dry. Right now it’s still a bit damp, but I don’t do anything with it. When I’m filming, it’s a different story, of course,” she shared. The one product she does rely on is a great serum for softness and shine; her favorite, she said, is from Crown Affair.
Johnson also shouted out her regular hairstylists Mark Townsend and George Northwood for taking “really good care” of her hair—the secret to her natural length. “I think it just has to do with what you do on the inside,” Johnson told Vogue Germany, referencing how quickly her hair and nails grow. “I eat very healthy, drink lots of water and don’t do too much to my hair.”
