David F. Sandberg To Direct Horror Film ‘A Little Slice Of Hell’ For Paramount

EXCLUSIVE: Swedish genre filmmaker David F. Sandberg (Shazam!) has attached to direct A Little Slice of Hell, a horror film for Paramount Pictures based on a short story of the same name by John Goodrich.

While plot details for the feature are under wraps, the story follows two underpaid supermarket employees who realize that they should have read the employee manual after encountering a customer from Hell — literally. Goodrich published the original in the first issue of Assemble Artifacts, the short story magazine from Assemble Media.

Greg Weidman and Geoff Tock, a duo with TV credits like Limitless and Zoo at CBS, are writing the script based off Goodrich’s short story and a previous draft of the script by The Big Sick’s Emily V. Gordon.

Johnny Pariseau, Patrick Gooing and Molly Milstein will produce for Maximum Effort, alongside Jack Heller, Caitlin de Lisser-Ellen for Assemble, and Lotta Losten.

Perhaps best known for directing Shazam! and sequel Shazam! Fury of the Gods for Warner Bros./DC, which together grossed over $500 million worldwide, Sandberg most recently directed and produced an adaptation of the Sony PlayStation video game Until Dawn for Screen Gems, which released last April.

Prior to his work on the Shazam! films, Sandberg directed Annabelle: Creation for New Line, the fourth installment in The Conjuring Universe franchise, which grossed over $306 million worldwide. He started his career releasing short horror films in his native Sweden, including the 2013 viral hit Lights Out, which he adapted into a 2016 feature for New Line, grossing over $149M globally. He is represented by CAA, Gotham Group, and Jackoway Austen Tyerman.

Weideman and Tock are repped by Brillstein Entertainment Partners and CAA. Gordon is repped by UTA, Mosaic, and Scheck Rose Dapello.
