Dripping Springs and Driftwood neighborhoods hit with break-ins
DRIFTWOOD, Texas (KXAN) — Neighborhoods in both the Driftwood and Dripping Springs areas were hit with break-ins earlier this week.
“An active investigation is being conducted with multiple leads being followed up on,” the Hays County Sheriff’s Office told KXAN in a statement. “This is all we can release at this time due to the active investigation.”
The HCSO said it would release more information at a later time.
‘I couldn’t sleep’
Jakob and Stephanie Skelton said about $1,000 worth of items was stolen from inside their garage in Driftwood. While some of the items can be replaced, they said the thieves also took things that are irreplaceable.
“Sentimental stuff of the military items that were taken, some of the stuff I had when I was in Afghanistan. I did two tours in Afghanistan,” Jakob said. “The magazines that were actually in the kit were actually ones I carried in Afghanistan.”
The family said they didn’t hear when it happened, but woke up to find items missing Monday morning.
“The next night, I just, I couldn’t sleep. It’s just scary, because we also have small children,” Stephanie said. “To know that someone invaded our privacy, like they walked this far into our private area, into our home.”
The Skeltons said they moved out to this area to avoid situations like this. This experience, among other reasons, has now pushed them to move again.
“This was supposed to be the forever home,” Jakob said.
A Dripping Springs resident shared video with KXAN from outside their home that shows someone walk up and try to open the doors of two cars in their driveway.
Other neighbors in Dripping Springs told KXAN they would like to see license plate readers added to help with this situation.
