Elgin Police arrest man for alleged Austin dog-napping, shooting
AUSTIN (KXAN) — Elgin Police, along with the Bastrop County Sheriff’s Office, arrested a man in Elgin Tuesday on an Austin Police Department arrest warrant for a dog theft and shooting that occurred Sunday night near Shady Lane.
APD’s arrest warrant for Raderrick Harvey charges him with one felony count of aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon.
According to APD, Harvey allegedly approached the victim in a car. The victim was walking his dogs at the time.
KXAN spoke with the victim on Monday.
“Guy, just pulled up in the car and said, ‘Hey, is that a Frenchie?’ I said, ‘Yeah,’ and he jumped out the car with this pistol,” the victim said. “He kept saying, ‘give me the f—— dog, or I’ll shoot you!’ I said, ‘Go ahead, I’m not giving you my dog.’ That’s when he shot me in the foot.”
APD alleges that Harvey then shot the suspect in the foot before stealing Freya. The victim’s other dog, Loki, received minor injuries during the incident.
“He got run over his scrapes and his feet. He’s been licking at his feet and they’re obviously sore,” the victim said.
At the time of his arrest, Harvey allegedly had controlled substances and two rifles — an “AK-47 style pistol and AR-15 style pistol,” according to APD.
Harvey is currently in custody at Bastrop County Jail. Freya has not yet been found.
