Google search data reveals most misspelled word for Texas
AUSTIN (KXAN) — Research conducted by WordUnscrambler.pro analyzed Google search data from Jan. 1, 2025, to May 19, 2025, and revealed the most misspelled words searched for in Texas and the rest of the United States.
The organization said the search data was taken from Google Trends for “How do you spell” and “How to spell.”
The word that was the most misspelled word searched in the state of Texas was the word “protect”, according to the data.
The organization also revealed America’s most misspelled words, which included:
- Definitely – 33,500 searches
- Separate – 30,000 searches
- Necessary – 29,000 searches
- Believe – 28,500 searches
- Through – 28,000 searches
- Gorgeous – 27,000 searches
- Neighbor – 25,500 searches
- Business – 24,200 searches
- Favorite – 23,000 searches
- Restaurant – 22,500 searches
This data is released as The Scripps National Spelling Bee is set to take place from May 27 through May 29 in Maryland. The annual spelling bee will be celebrating its 100th anniversary.
The winner of the competition will receive a $50,000 cash prize as well as the Scripps Cup, according to the organization.
