Hays Co. building evacuated due to suspicious package

AUSTIN (KXAN) — On Friday afternoon, Hays County Judge Ruben Becerra said the public safety building on Stagecoach Road had been evacuated due to a suspicious package.

A public information officer with the Hays County Sheriff’s Office said the package was found shortly before 1 p.m. Access to the building has now been limited.

The Hays County Facebook page said the intersections of Wonder World and Stagecoach Trail and Dutton Drive and Corporate Drive have closed due to the incident.

Becerra said evacuated employees who are currently not inside the building are free to go for the rest of the day.

The county said that jurors are not yet released from jury duty and will receive additional communication from their bailiff.

As more information becomes available, Becerra said he would provide more timely updates.
