Interactive balloon museum popping up in Austin
AUSTIN (KXAN) — Austin’s summer activity list is rising to new heights as a traveling balloon art exhibition will launch in the capital city.
Balloon Museum’s “Let’s Fly – Art Has No Limits”, an exhibition of 19 large-scale installations, will open its doors from June 21 to Nov. 2 at 2930 W. Anderson Lane. That’s the former Louis Shanks Furniture location.
“Austin’s spirit of creativity and its reputation as a hub for innovation makes it the natural choice for Balloon Museum’s next chapter in the United States,” said Roberto Fantauzzi, founder of Lux Entertainment, in a press release.
Since debuting in 2021, and hosting in major global cities since then, the Balloon Museum has introduced over 7 million visitors to the concept of hands-on art, according to the Balloon Museum website.
“Let’s Fly,” the Balloon Museum’s fourth exhibition, will showcase pieces where “art merges with the forces of the air.”
“In a city where art and technology intertwine, we are excited to cultivate a space that celebrates imagination but also challenges the way people experience and interact with art,” Fantauzzi said.
Don’t expect wiener dogs twisted by clowns or a bundle of helium-filled birthday balloons, but a photogenic exhibit of animated LED light displays, monstrous reflective disco balls and inflatable geometric structures, according to the website.
Unlike traditional art exhibits, dress to play– or take infinite Instagram photos– during the 90-minute duration, as guests are encouraged to interact with the pieces in the 65,000-square-foot location. Everything is meant to be touched, experienced and engaged with. Those who attend can swing on a bench underneath a 26-foot butterfly sculpture or toss large balls that resemble an eyeball.
Even Netflix’s attention was caught by the traveling art show, featuring the Paris location on “Emily in Paris.”
While the installation has become popular with young families and influencers, the museum boasts that it fascinates all ages, including “adults and children, enthusiasts and the curious.”
