Sleeping giant is up

Lest they awake the sleeping giant. Yes, the federal Liberal government has finally made the citizens of Alberta mad enough to actually want to leave Canada for good. When this happens, the U.S.A. will immediately recognize Alberta as a free and sovereign state and prevent any coup by Canada. The federal Liberals have awoken the sleeping giant. The breakup will be swift and devastating for eastern Canada, which will be scratching their head for centuries to come. Amen.

Albertans aghast
In response to Mr. Bilda’s letter of Nov. 19. (‘Supply and demand,’ Letters to the editor, Calgary Sun, Wednesday.) Albertans are well aware of the concept of supply and demand. What is disconcerting for Albertans (and should be disconcerting for all Canadians) is that Canada has enough resources to supply our needs, yet many provinces continue to bring in oil from other
countries. Canada needs to become less dependent on foreign sources for our oil and
gas needs and support our Canadian economy.

We’ve got the supply
(Re: ‘Albertans need an education on supply and demand,’ Letters to the editor, Calgary Sun, Wednesday.) The Sun is correct in pointing out that Albertans are aware of supply and demand. What this letter-writer may be missing is that demand does not need to be an increase in need for oil and gas, but a displacement of oil and gas already provided by another country. For instance, how much more oil and gas can Alberta and B.C. produce by displacing unstable Russian or Middle East oil and gas supplies to the E.U. and other countries.

Licence to thrive
(Re: ‘Bell – Alberta’s new ‘Strong And Free’ licence plate – here it is,’ Calgary Sun, Tuesday) It’s looking great from my vantage point. Today, Albertans have a brand new licence plate with a very catchy slogan to celebrate. Tomorrow, we will have a brand country, the Republic of Alberta ready to burst on the global stage. Can life get any better, might I ask?

In the zone
Blanket rezoning is in the news again. City administration recommended rezoning as a path to more affordable and attainable housing. It did not happen. A single, narrow, two-storey house sells for $1.2 million in Ward 4. A little bungalow is overshadowed by an eight-plex, with no allowance for parking, happily giving the city more taxes per lot then the little bungalow ever could. Rezoning was never about affordable housing, only about more taxes for the city coffers.
