AUSTIN (KXAN) — The Austin Police Department is expected to give an update on a weekend shooting involving officers that happened in south Austin during a 2 p.m. news conference on Tuesday.

APD Police Chief Lisa Davis is expected to lead the conference.

Officers responded to a report of a shooting on Saturday around 10 a.m. in the 1700 block of West William Cannon Drive.

When officers arrived on the scene, they found a man who appeared to have a gun in his lap. Police said he began leaving the scene, but then he turned around and pointed the gun at officers.

One person was shot and taken to the hospital, and no officers were injured in the shooting, according to police. The person who was shot later died.

Police later determined that the man had a Glock replica BB gun.

Over the weekend, APD was seeking public help to gather more information about the shooting, including photos, videos and more.
