LIVE: Tommy's Travel Forecast: Stormy for some, Kiko approaches Hawaii

AUSTIN (KXAN) — September starts seasonably for many, with rounds of showers and thunderstorms in the Central Plains. The tropics are quiet in the Atlantic Basin, but Hawaii is closely watching Hurricane Kiko, as it continues to churn towards the Islands.

Severe Weather

The Storm Prediction Center has forecast a marginal level 1/5 severe weather threat for portions of the Plains on Sunday and Monday, with a low-end wind and hail threat.

Cities of potential impact include Amarillo, Texas, Wichita, Kansas, and Dodge City, Kansas.

A slow-moving front will bring a flood threat to parts of Florida for several days. Computer models suggest multiple inches of rain are possible for cities such as Miami.

Hurricane Kiko

Hurricane Kiko is forecast to pass north of the Hawaiian Islands on Tuesday and Wednesday.

The general risk of direct impact is decreasing, but life-threatening rip currents, gusty winds, and heavy rain are possible.
