‘Lord Of The Flies’ Trailer: Savagery & Chaos In Netflix Adaptation

“The sky is darkening and the beast is close at hand.” So begins the official and brutal first trailer for Lord of the Flies, Netflix‘s upcoming series adaptation of William Golding’s 1954 novel.

Adapted for television by Adolescence co-creator, Emmy winner Jack Thorne, in Lord of the Flies, innocence descends into savagery when a group of English schoolboys becomes desert island castaways. It tells the story of the boys who attempt to remain civil by organizing themselves, led by Ralph (Winston Sawyers), who is supported by the group’s intellectual, Piggy (David McKenna). However, Jack (Lox Pratt) challenges his leadership and begins to draw other boys away, sending them on a course from hope to tragedy.

The trailer opens with a terrifying plane crash that leaves the boys stranded on the island. Greeted by a group of boys dressed all in black, the castaways are asked, “Were you all on the plane?”, to which Piggy replies, “We were. And now we’re trying to find out exactly where we are.” And then the chaos and savagery begins.

In addition to Sawyers, McKenna and Pratt, Ike Talbut stars as Simon. Thomas Connor appears as Roger, Noah, and Cassius Flemyng as twins Sam and Eric, Cornelius Brandreth as Maurice, and Tom Page-Turner as Bill, alongside an ensemble of more than 30 boys playing the desert island camp’s “biguns” and “littluns”

The trailer reveal also highlights music by Oscar-winner Hans Zimmer, Kara Talve (Bleeding Fingers Music), and Cristobal Tapia de Veer.

Lord of the Flies is an Eleven and One Shoe Films production backed by Sony Pictures Television. Marc Munden (The Mark of Cain, National Treasure) serves as Director and executive produces, along with Joel Wilson and Jamie Campbell for Eleven and Jack Thorne for One Shoe Films.

Lord of the Flies premieres May 4 on Netflix in the U.S.. Check out the trailer above.
