Man arrested after injuring girlfriend's toddler, US Marshals say

AUSTIN (KXAN) — The US Marshals Lone Star Fugitive Task Force has arrested a Del Valle man on an injury to a child charge after a two-year-old was hospitalized with significant injuries.

Marcos Amaya Maldonado, 25, allegedly injured the child at the mother’s residence on Dessau Road, near Rundberg Lane, on Feb. 7. Maldonado is the boyfriend of the victim’s mother, according to an affidavit by an APD Child Abuse Unit investigator.

According to investigators, the mother observed injuries on the child when she returned home after work. The child was taken to a nearby hospital, where medical personnel reported the victim had sustained “significant injuries.”

According to an arrest warrant, the victim had a large contusion on their head, as well as bruising on their face, neck, back and genitals.

Maldonado was arrested in Del Valle Tuesday and was booked into the Travis County Jail.

Attorney information for Maldonado is not yet available. KXAN will update when that information becomes available.
