Mets make trade with Giants for reliever Justin Garza

The Mets acquired right-handed reliever Justin Garza from the Giants for cash considerations on Saturday.

Garza, 31, last pitched in the major leagues in 2023 with the Red Sox, for whom he posted a 7.36 ERA in 17 appearances.

Garza this season owns a 6.11 ERA in 19 appearances for the Giants’ Triple-A affiliate.

The right-hander, drafted in the eighth round of the 2015 draft by Cleveland, has a 5.74 ERA in 38 big league games.

He does, however, have 478 strikeouts across 474 minor league innings since 2016.

Garza, according to Baseball Savant, throws four pitches: a fastball, cutter, slider and changeup.

The Mets also signed right-handed pitcher Julian Merryweather to a minor league deal.
